Art Auction for Charity
ArtAuction
Debut January 24, 2011
Last Appearance April 18, 2012

Art Auction for Charity was a recurring segment on Red Eye during the first half of 2011. Every week, host Greg Gutfeld would put up for auction a picture that he drew, usually featuring a unicorn or unicorn's head on a human body and Fluffy McNutter; many of these pictures were leftover from I Draw the News. Each auction would begin on a Friday and close the following Friday, unless the show was bumped multiple times during a particularly busy news week, in which case the auction would carry over to the following week. Winning bids were typically around $1,000 or $1,500; the highest bid was $5,000, the lowest was $300, the average bid was $1,561.38.

Greg Gutfeld was inspired to do this before his appendectomy in January, 2011. He contemplated auctioning off his appendix for charity, until he found out that it was illegal. In lieu of this, he drew a picture of his appendix and put that up for auction to benefit a then undecided military charity beginning January 24. The Wounded Warriors Projects was eventually decided upon.

At the suggestion of frequent Red Eye guest panelist/guest ombudsman Mike Baker, Greg Gutfeld began raising money for TAPS in his art auctions beginning on April 1.

Frequent guest panelist Paul Mecurio got into the act himself, auctioning off a jacket he wore on the show on March 4 that got a lot of flack from the other panelists. Bidding on his jacket lasted about three weeks, ending on June 3 after receiving a small number of bids. The winning bid came from Josh Lee Wilson, who offered $555.

The final piece of artwork was closed on July 18. With the advent of The Five and Greg's increased workload, the Art Auction was put to rest at this time. All in all, $15,509.56 was raised for the Wounded Warriors Project and $13,540.77 was raised for TAPS.

On March 22, 2012, Gutfeld announced that one drawing was not mailed to the winner because he did not send in the money owed. He then declared another auction for the piece, with the winnings this time to be donated to the newly opened trust fund for the late Andrew Breitbart's children. Two more pieces were donated to Red Eye to be auctioned for the same charity, with one bid coming from Red Eye guest Jonathan Hoenig. A total of $13,000 was raised for Breitbart Children's Trust.
